My canoes name is The S.S. Oliver. My dream starts when The S.S. Oliver is dunked into the Red River in Fargo in May of 2026 and sets off through the urban area. I hope he will spot rabbits squirrels and finches. During the night one day latera fox will creep along the shore. The S.S. Oliver will leave Fargo three days later it will be just a steady ride through the countryside from then I hope. It will pass through a small wooded area where cottonwood trees tower over the river and cotton flies through the air. A piece even landing in the river and swimming alongside the small boat. A walleye will swim up and nudge the side of The S.S. Oliver at the confluence where the Sheyenne River meets the Red River. Eventually a small ripple at the point where the Buffalo River joins with the Red River will throw The S.S. Oliver off course into the river bank. An hour later hopefully another ripple will dislodge him and set him back on course. A rafter of wild turkeys will wander about near the river one day taking flight when The S.S. Oliver passes by. I hope the journey will go smoothly for the next week with a small exception of a Great Blue Heron aiming for a fish almost piercing the small thing as it floats by. After days of floating a towering elm tree and a bridge over the river will provide shade on a hot summer day. Passing farmland outside Grand Forks The S.S. Oliver will see a farmer walking amid his crop of sugar beets some ways away. The farmer will notice something small floating in the river and approach to find a carved canoe. The canoe will float close to the river bank and bump a rock the man watches as it draws closer to the bank. It will bump up against the bank and the farmer will hopefully pick it up and read the message it contains. He will bring it back to the farm house and barn. Going to his truck hell search for what the canoe reads on his phone for he had left it there. Later he returned to the river and will toss The S.S. Oliver back in the river. It will take another week to sail through Grand Forks but The S.S. Oliver will be on his way again. He will pass through Walsh County and cross into Kittson County. Somewhere in Kittson County The S.S. Oliver will hopefully encounter a catfish. The S.S. Oliver will pass the Canadian border and will float by Emerson. One week later it will see a pack of wolves prowling in the night and the next week a black bear in a tree The S.S. Oliver will pass through Morris and see a lynx drinking from the river in the span of two more days.It will take The S.S. Oliver four days to get to Winnipeg and another day to pass through Winnipeg. Four and a half days later The S.S. Oliver will reach Lake Winnipeg. Hopefully while wandering Lake Winnipeg The S.S. Oliver will cross paths with a salmon or 8. Finding his way to Nelson River will have taken a long time and a lot of getting marooned on small islands but The S.S. Oliver shall make it to the river. Many weeks later The S.S. Oliver will hopefully cross into Hudson Bay. After navigating through Hudson Bay and the islands around it The S.S. Oliver will make his trip out of the bay and toward Greenland his final destination. After drifting North of the Labrador Sea he shall reach Greenland. I hope that a family from Greenland will find him while fishing at the shore and take him into their home.
